Vietnam’s Long Thanh International Airport passenger terminal tops out

Vietnamese contractor Sol E&C has achieved a major milestone with the topping-out of the passenger terminal at the Long Thanh International Airport Phase 1. A ceremony to celebrate this important stage was held on 23 August 2024, attended by other partners involved in the project (contractors Newtecons and Ricons) and the Vietur Consortium.

Started in late August 2023, after over 11 months of construction, the passenger terminal has officially completed the reinforced concrete structure from the technical basement to the fourth floor, while also progressing with the installation of the project’s mechanical and electrical systems, shared Sol E&C in its announcement.

Despite the challenges posed by weather conditions, Sol E&C pointed out that nearly 2,500 personnel, including experts, engineers, architects and workers, supported by 2,000 units of machinery, have been hard at work to ensure that construction stays on schedule.

The contract package, valued at VND 35 trillion, is being carried out by the Vietur Consortium over 39 months. In Phase 1, upon commencement of operations, the Long Thanh International Airport is expected to serve 25 million passengers and 1.2 mil t of cargo annually. Once all phases are completed, the airport’s capacity is projected to reach 100 million passengers per year.

The Long Thanh International Airport is one of Vietnam’s key projects, with the passenger terminal being the largest and most technically complex package, said Sol E&C, adding that it also has the longest construction period among the packages of Component Project 3 – Essential facilities within the airport, under the Phase 1 project.

According to the plan, following the topping-out ceremony, the project will continue into the concurrent construction of finishing works, steel structures, facades, mechanical and electrical installation, and terminal equipment.
