Malaysia’s MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 to open in Nov 2021

Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has announced that the construction of the MRT Putrajaya Line, which is part of the KVMRT project, is progressing well and has passed the 90% overall completion mark.

Progress for Phase 1 between Kwasa Damansara station and Kampung Batu station is at 99%. Currently, trial operations, which began on 29 April 2021, are being carried out by the operator along this section of the line.

MRT Corp’s CEO Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim said in order to ensure that the operator achieves the required level of competency, MRT Corp has decided to extend the period for the trial operations.

“The original training schedule was impacted by the Movement Control Order 3.0 (MCO 3.0) and the Enhanced Movement Control Order which is being enforced in most parts of Selangor and selected locations in Kuala Lumpur,” he explained.

As a result of this, MRT Corp has revised the scheduled opening date for MRT Putrajaya Line Phase 1 to mid November 2021. This new timing is also chosen to take place in Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan, when the country’s economy is expected to be fully open and the launch event can be held.
