Woh Hup (Private) Limited has been awarded a major contract to lead the construction of Las Vegas Sands’ new ultra-luxury development at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

\n\n

Slated for completion in 2030, the project will feature a luxury hotel tower with signature rooftop and dining experiences, luxury retail boutiques, gaming facilities, spa and wellness amenities, and approximately 200,000 sq ft of premium meeting space. In addition, a purpose-built 15,000-seat arena aims to enhance the live entertainment scene in Asia.

\n\n

Las Vegas Sands said Woh Hup was selected for its strong technical capabilities, proven track record in complex projects, and depth in engineering and design management.

\n\n

Founded in 1927, Woh Hup is one of Singapore’s largest privately owned construction and civil engineering companies. Across nearly a century, the contractor has been instrumental in building many of Singapore’s most notable developments, including Gardens by the Bay and Jewel Changi Airport.

\n\n

Construction of Las Vegas Sands’ new development – designed by Safdie Architects – is currently underway, with up to 5,000 workers operating 24/7 on site. The project broke ground on 15 July 2025.

\n\n

A key economic driver in Singapore

\n\n

The appointment of Woh Hup to drive the pioneering development in the integrated resort (IR) operator’s next phase of growth comes on the heels of a record-breaking year of performance for Marina Bay Sands, as it marked its strongest results at levels unseen in the hospitality industry.

\n\n

To support its operations, the IR generated S$2.64 billion in annual business spending in 2025, with 90.8% of procurement directed to Singapore-based enterprises, underscoring Marina Bay Sands’ deep and sustained contribution to the broader economy. Over the past decade, the IR has consistently directed more than 90% of its procurement spend to local companies, revealed Las Vegas Sands.

\n\n

Amid a robust calendar of major business events and world-class entertainment offerings, Marina Bay Sands welcomed over 36 million visitors, hosted more than 2,000 MICE events, and received nearly 1.4 million delegates at Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre over the course of the year.

\n\n

It is estimated that Marina Bay Sands contributed 1.2% to Singapore’s gross domestic product (GDP) in 2025, based on a recently commissioned Economic Impact Assessment conducted by Enright, Scott & Associates Limited.

\n\n

According to Las Vegas Sands, this figure takes into account direct and indirect economic value added to Singapore’s GDP from capital investments associated with the IR, spending of local and non-local visitors in the IR, and the spending outside of the IR by non-local visitors who visited Singapore because of Marina Bay Sands.

\n\n

“Our economic contribution reflects the trust Singapore has placed in Marina Bay Sands and the many local partners, businesses and workers who help power our operations every day. It also underscores the scale of Marina Bay Sands’ economic footprint and the breadth of industries that benefit from our presence – from tourism and hospitality to retail, entertainment and the wider supply chain,” said Mr Dumont. “We remain strongly committed to contributing positively to Singapore’s economy in a way that is sustainable and in step with the country’s long-term ambitions.”

Las Vegas Sands has broken ground on its new US$8 billion ultra-luxurious resort and entertainment destination at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Construction of the project is expected to be completed in mid-2030, with the opening estimated in early 2031.

\n\n

Designed by Safdie Architects, the new development will comprise two main components: a 570-suite luxury hotel tower featuring a multi-level Skyloop, and a podium housing a 15,000-seat arena that will enhance the live entertainment scene in Asia.

\n\n

While its design builds upon many architectural elements from Marina Bay Sands, this prominent landmark will introduce original features that establish its own unique identity. Taking inspiration from the island’s lush urban greenery, it will also see biophilic designs being integrated throughout the building along with a significant proportion of green amenities.

\n\n

The hotel

\n\n

Rotated at a 45-degree angle to frame panoramic views of both the Marina Bay and the Singapore Strait, the 55-storey hotel tower rises with its twin wings curving outward as they ascend towards the sky.

\n\n

The highlight of this hotel tower is the 76,000-sq-ft Skyloop, which combines both elevated public and private spaces. As a counterpart to the iconic Sands SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands, the Skyloop’s form is defined by overlapping elliptical volumes – the upper and lower platforms – that spiral in opposing directions.

\n\n

At 245 m above ground, both platforms are slightly higher than Sands SkyPark, affording 360-degree views. The lower Skyloop interweaves several points of public access, including an observatory, destination restaurants and lush rooftop gardens. Above, hotel guests can enjoy secluded experiences: private cabanas, infinity-edge pools and shading palms. Plus, there will be a cantilevered wellness terrace suitable for yoga, arts and specialty events.

\n\n

The podium

\n\n

Situated adjacent to the hotel tower, the podium serves as a place for business, entertainment and cultural exchange. At its core is a 15,000-seat indoor arena being helmed by global design firm Populous.

\n\n

The podium will also incorporate approximately 200,000 sq ft of conference and exhibition venues, a multi-use public lobby, public gardens, and a variety of retail and dining offerings.

\n\n

It will be integrated with new and existing developments within the Marina Bay precinct for greater efficiency and pedestrian connectivity, providing direct access to Bayfront MRT station and linkways between Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay.

\n\n

Sustainability

\n\n

Conforming to Marina Bay Sands’ global strategy Sands ECO360, the development is designed in line with the Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark Platinum award criteria.

\n\n

Best practices will be adopted throughout the construction process, including the use of materials with reduced environmental impact – such as low-carbon concrete and recycled steel – to lower the project’s upfront environmental footprint.

\n\n

A construction waste management plan has also been set in place, where on-site segregation and recycling will be implemented and at least 75% of construction waste will be diverted to significantly reduce landfill disposal.

\n\n

Different approaches towards designing shade for guest comfort and reduced energy consumption are being explored. This includes a self-shading facade system that utilises high-performance glazing and internal blinds to lower direct solar heat transfer and improve energy efficiency.

\n\n

Each suite in the hotel tower will have its own private terrace and garden, while outdoor dining venues will be fitted with canopies to shield guests from the elements. In addition, tree species native to the Southeast Asian region will be planted where possible, paying tribute to the development’s prime location.

Vietnamese company Sol E&C has been commissioned as the design & build general contractor for Five Star Odyssey, a luxury five-star hotel and tourist apartment project in Ba Ria–Vung Tau province, Vietnam. The tower features a gross building area of 200,000 sq m, comprising 50 storeys, four basement levels, 436 hotel rooms, 1,019 high-end apartment units, 12 penthouses, and a conference centre with a capacity of over 1,000 guests.

\n\n

Upon completion, this new landmark will become the tallest skyscraper in Ba Ria–Vung Tau province, said Sol E&C. Developed by Five Star International Group, Five Star Odyssey is located on the frontage of Thuy Van Street, a bustling and central area of Back Beach.

\n\n

The contractor further revealed that the project will present complex construction challenges due to its proximity to the sea with significant height (50 storeys), and deep basement levels (four levels). At the groundbreaking ceremony, Nguyen Ba Duong, founding chairman of Sol E&C and Newtecons, pledged to collaborate closely with the client and partners to ensure the project’s objectives are met.

\n\n

Mr Nguyen also committed to completing the project with the highest quality and the fastest construction progress, while addressing environmental concerns, ensuring labour safety, and providing the most suitable and effective construction solutions for the client.

\n\n

In addition, the project to upgrade Thuy Van Street with a total investment of over 1.216 trillion VND is scheduled to commence at the end of July 2024 and be completed by May 2025. This infrastructure investment will complement Five Star Odyssey, making it an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists when fully operational.
