Sun Group has announced its plans to develop 15 hotels with approximately 6,500 five-star rooms on the island of Phu Quoc, Vietnam, in preparation for the APEC 2027 Summit.
On 28 January, the Phu Quoc government and Sun Group officially commenced construction work on the Bai Dat Do (Ruby Beach) Mixed-Use Urban Area and Ong Quan Mountain Eco-Tourism Mixed-Use Urban Area – two of the 21 approved APEC projects. Together, these developments will add approximately 12,000 hotel rooms, serviced apartments, shopping centres and international-standard landscapes, establishing world-class hospitality infrastructure capable of meeting the stringent requirements of high-level diplomatic events at APEC 2027.
In particular, the Bai Dat Do (Ruby Beach) Mixed-Use Urban Area spans 88.4 ha with a total investment of around VND 64,000 billion, developed along the APEC Avenue axis. Positioned in a rare ‘diamond’ location adjacent to the APEC Conference Centre and near Sunset Town, the project boasts a large-scale accommodation complex, targeted for completion within just 18 months.
According to Sun Group, the Bai Dat Do (Ruby Beach) Mixed-Use Urban Area will become a coastal ‘hotel city’, combining accommodation, commerce, services, tourism and luxury hotels, supported by social and technical infrastructure. In addition to 15 high-rise beachfront hotels, the project will feature towers up to 40 stories, which integrate luxury hotels, shopping centres and a seaside plaza. The highlight will be a 136,000 sq m shopping centre (operated by Lotte), one of Vietnam’s largest, forming a key commerce-entertainment axis in the area.
The hotel city reflects Sun Group’s long-term vision for Phu Quoc, creating a sustainable ecosystem of accommodation, conference and high-end service infrastructure. This development will serve not only as a luxury tourism and accommodation destination but also as a venue for significant cultural, political and social events, shaping and projecting Vietnam’s national image globally.
