Hong Kong’s MTR Corp signs project agreement for Hung Shui Kiu station; targets for completion in 2030

MTR Corporation has signed a project agreement with the Hong Kong government for the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the Hung Shui Kiu station (HSK) on the Tuen Ma Line. This project will involve construction of a new station on an operating railway viaduct of the Tuen Ma Line.

HSK is one of the railway projects undertaken by MTR to support the overall development strategy of Hong Kong. Together with the Tung Chung Line Extension, Oyster Bay station, Kwu Tung station on the East Rail Line and Tuen Mun South Extension that are under construction, these projects will further enhance connectivity of relevant areas and strengthen the competitiveness of the city.

Upon completion, HSK will be located between the Tin Shui Wai station and Siu Hong station on the Tuen Ma Line, providing direct and efficient railway services to the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area and nearby residents in the future. HSK will be the first station in Hong Kong to be built on an operating railway viaduct, said MTR.

While pushing forward the project, MTR will aim to minimise any impact on normal train services of the Tuen Ma Line through meticulous planning, rigorous construction procedures, and the application of innovative technologies and construction methods.

According to MTR, the HSK project will be funded by financial contributions from the ‘Rail plus Property’ development model. It is expected to commence construction works after concluding the tendering for the major works contract, for a target completion in 2030.
