Bauma 2022 to highlight digitalisation and sustainability

The world’s largest trade show for construction machinery, building materials and mining machinery is set for its next edition from 24 to 30 October 2022.

According to the show organiser Messe München, this year’s bauma is expected to attract over 3,000 international exhibitors on a total exhibition area of 614,000 sq m – covering 200,000 sq m hall space and 414,000 sq m outdoor area.

Held every three years, bauma broke all records in 2019 with more than 3,600 exhibitors from 63 countries and regions, and more than 620,000 visitors from over 200 countries.

Speaking of the upcoming event during the media dialog in June, Messe München said bauma 2022 will focus on five key topics: Mining – sustainable, efficient, reliable; The way to zero emission; Construction methods and materials of tomorrow; Digital construction site; The way to autonomous machines.

There will be three supporting programmes at the event, namely bauma Forum, Think Big! and Science Hub.

The bauma Forum will take place at the bauma Innovation Hall LAB0. Each day, it will highlight one of the main topics of bauma from different perspectives, such as those of industry, universities and start-ups.

The daily sessions at the bauma Forum will include: keynote, short presentations and panel discussion on the respective main topic; presentations from universities; 10-minute start-up presentations; 30-minute exhibitor presentations; and presentation of the Innovation Award contenders on the first day.

Think Big! will be located at the ICM Foyer of bauma, from Monday to Friday. This is an initiative of VDMA (the German Engineering Federation) and its members, together with Messe München and other partners.

As an out-of-school learning location, Think Big! aims to inspire young generation on technological career perspectives through several activities:

  • Providing the opportunity for discussions with experts, professional orientation, contacts for internships and educational partnerships.

  • Conveying fun with technology, as the companies and supporters present themselves with exciting hands-on activities, games and information on technical training and study transitions.

  • Giving insights in shows with workshop Live! Trainees at work, where young trainees are working on heavy machinery.

  • Offering participatory actions from companies like Liebherr-International, Fritzmeier Systems, Kiesel, Wacker Neuson, Komatsu, Geda, bbw, Zeppelin, Bauer, Hawe Hydraulik, HDB, Landbautechnik Bundesverband, TUM Ulm, TU Dresden and other technical universities.

The other programme, Science Hub, will also be located at the bauma Innovation Hall LAB0. It will provide information on current questions: What is the status of research and science? What topics are influencing the industry? What specifically is in the pipeline?

At the Science Hub, 10 universities will present together, partly in cooperation with each other. The international exhibition from universities and scientific institutes from different disciplines will also bring everyone up to date on the latest status of research. In addition, current research results will be presented on the topics of construction machines, construction material systems and mining technology.
