Aurecon appoints Nicolas Renon to grow energy and advisory business in Asia

Aurecon has appointed Nicolas Renon as new managing principal, advisory – Southeast Asia and managing director, energy – Asia. He will be based in Singapore and report directly to Stephane Asselin, chief executive for Asia.

This appointment is part of Aurecon’s concerted investment and expansion across Asia and reaffirms the company’s commitment to support clients in building a greener future. As the focus on energy security, transition and sustainability pushes demand for renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure in Asia, the region remains a key pillar of Aurecon’s overall growth strategy.

Many countries in Asia have announced more aggressive climate pledges, including China committing to become carbon neutral by 2060, Malaysia by 2050 and Singapore to achieve net-zero emissions by or around 2050. Southeast Asian countries have also committed to a target of renewable energy accounting for 23% of the total primary energy supply by 2025. Given that investment activity in green energy has doubled over the last decade and continues to accelerate in Asia, Aurecon is well placed to expand its energy and advisory expertise in the region.

“As Asia combats the effects of climate change, many governments and businesses in the region are paying greater attention to environmental and sustainability efforts with added urgency. This renewed focus brings great potential for our business growth here,” said Mr Asselin.

“Being a proven energy and infrastructure expert who has an intimate knowledge of Asia, Nicolas will enable us to deliver differentiated and innovative solutions for our clients in a dynamic and competitive market. His deep international experience and strong business acumen will position us well to seize new growth opportunities for our energy and advisory business in Asia.”

With over 20 years of international experience in renewables and energy advisory, as well as in strategy, operations and management, Mr Renon brings interdisciplinary knowledge underpinned by a comprehensive understanding of local, regional and global practices.

In his new role, Mr Renon will help clients navigate the challenges and opportunities around energy transition and will collaborate with them to design solutions that will enable them to transition to a low-carbon economy. With his astute sense of the market and in-depth expertise, Mr Renon will cultivate new client relationships and industry networks, as well as deepen existing ones. These will collectively grow Aurecon’s energy and advisory business and strengthen the company’s presence in Asia.

“Aurecon’s future-focused approach to create long-term value for the betterment of clients strongly resonates with me. I am delighted to embark on this new journey with Aurecon at an exciting time for growth in Asia. As opportunities abound in this region, I look forward to working closely with my diverse and talented colleagues across the wider Aurecon network to help clients move towards a net-zero carbon future,” said Mr Renon.

Prior to joining Aurecon, Mr Renon served as executive vice president, energy advisory, Asia Pacific at DNV. In three years, he grew DNV’s presence across Asia Pacific and contributed to shaping its reputation as a trusted advisor in the regional energy sector. Earlier on in his career, Mr Renon also held several leadership positions at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, Corporate Value Associates and Lys Energy.
